About the Theta Beta Chapter

On March 3rd, 1979, the ideals of Friendship, Justice, and Learning were brought to the University of South Florida when the Theta Beta Chapter was officially given our charter and became a member of Sigma Chi. The founding fathers of our chapter, like the founders of our fraternity, realized that the world expects more of Sigma Chis than it does of other people. They realized that the USF community needed an organization filled with people of different temperaments, talents, and convictions. Something that hadn’t been brought to the University yet.

Since our founding here at USF, we have always been regarded as an organization that is extremely involved within the University, high quality service to the community, focus on academic ability, and a positive social environment that inspires others around us. We have vast amounts of people in various positions in Student Government, Athletics, and many other organizations around campus. We are also known for our philanthropic efforts with “Derby Days”, our week long event that raises thousands of dollars for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Sigma Chi is heavily motivated to be the generation that ends cancer. Check out the Service page above to learn more about the partnership between the Huntsman Cancer Foundation and Sigma Chi.

During a member’s time here at Theta Beta, our goal is to foster their leadership, build their character, and promote relationship skills to become productive and caring participants on campus, in their own communities, and beyond for the rest of their lives.

“One, and the main, aim and object of Sigma Chi has been, and is, to develop and train broad-minded men who can recognize the wholeness of things and who are not bound down to a contracted, eight-by-ten notion of exclusiveness. There is an absolute necessity for such men.” – Founder Benjamin P. Runkle, MIAMI (OHIO) 1857
